The Word Magic of the Wonder Question

If you have read any of my earlier posts, you will already know how much I was impacted by The Big Leap. Deciding to study and practice the principles in this book has turned out to be one of the most impactful decisions of my life! (side note: I do not use the word "impactful" lightly; in fact I am judgemental of people who do! I know, it's not nice to judge; I am a work in progress. )

The idea that you can change your life by changing the words you use with yourself and others is not new. It is a concept explored in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, which was later adapted into one of my all time favourite movies with Audrey Hepburn, My Fair Lady. It is also a concept you will hear echoed across the fields of business and personal development.

If you change your words, you change your life!

In The Big Leap, Dr. Hendricks offers a question strategy that can lead you to change the way you think. He calls it the Wonder Questions.

Trust me. Asking these questions will make you feel good immediately because it is impossible to answer anything but YES!

Here are some examples (some from the book and some I made up):

Am I willing to extend the periods of time where I feel good inside?

Am I willing to increase the amount of time I spend in my zone of genius?

Am I willing to be kind to myself?

Am I willing to feel good inside all the time?

Am I willing to increase the flow of positive energy in my life?

Am I willing to expand to the best version of myself?

Am I willing to be as big and amazing as I can be and have everyone be happy about it?

Am I willing to commit to eliminating negative thought behaviours so I can increase the flow of positive energy in my life?

Am I willing to be happy all of the time?

Am I willing to practice gratitude?

Am I willing to celebrate my own success/gifts/talents/skills?

If your answer to each of the above question isn't YES, then you may have some work to do around being kind to yourself. Don't tell me you can't. There is no can't only won't.

Here’s the challenge:

Ask yourself when you feel best. How can you get more of that? Then practice asking yourself one or more of these questions daily. If you have a meditation practice, I recommend adding these phrases to your practice. Or you can write them out as part of your affirmations if you practice The Miracle Morning.

I find that the merely asking myself these questions causes me to experience a sense of expansion because I find it impossible to answer NO to any of them.

For the past 8 months, I have made Wonder Questions a part of my daily meditation and reflection practice. I post a new Wonder Question each Wednesday on my Instagram. I do so for my own sake, it helps me keep the practice going, and also in hopes of giving someone else the inspiration they need to step into their own expansion. If you need some inspiration with the Wonder Questions, you can follow me on Instagram by searching for @stellar.deb

As with any strategy for thought change, the important thing is that you make a regular practice of asking yourself these questions. My experience with the Wonder Questions is that because it is impossible to answer NO, the result has been that I have been inspired to take action to feel good, to increase the flow of positive energy, to spend more time in my zone of genius.  The existence of this blog is proof.

I hope you will try making the Wonder Questions a part of your practice of self care and personal development and then let me know how it goes! Make up your own questions and share those with the community too! If you need inspiration, read The Big Leap or follow me on Instagram :)

Want to uplevel this experience? Here’s another great trick from Dr. Hendricks: try adding the "Hmmm" sound before you ask each questions. You know the sound you make when you are considering an idea or thought, when you are “wondering”?

Hmmm, I wonder, am I willing to eliminate negative thought patterns so I can increase the flow of positive energy?

My answer is a gigantic YES!

I hope yours is too!

My goal with my Stellar Life Project is to inspire as many people as possible to live their own Stellar Life. So, it would mean the world to me if you would share this blog with your friends. Your support will literally be my rocket fuel on this mission!

Thanks so much for reading this far!  Until next time, remember you are already STELLAR and the world is a better place when you are expanding to the best version of yourself! So, I'll leave you with one more wonder question to ask yourself:

Am I willing to expand into the best version of myself?
